Helping HR Build Forms
Getting rid of time-consuming manual processes, one form at a time.
Responsible for: user and market research, defining requirements, userflows, interaction design, usability testing, and Hifi delivery.
Background
Customer support spent hours and hours on end creating custom forms for customers. This was not a part of the job description. I was tasked with designing an intuitive custom form builder that met the strict compliance and legal requirements of HR.
Methodology
Gather Resident Knowledge
There was a lot to be learned by interviewing Customer Support. 1 – Because they had that first hand experience going through the struggles of creating custom forms for customers. 2 – Because they were aware of many legal considerations when it came to forms such as I-9s, W-2s, and security needs / user permissions around PII.
Conduct User Interviews
Conducted with current customers to dive deeper into their current behaviors, needs, and expectations when it came to form delivery, approval, and receipt.
Competitive Analysis and Feature Inventory
There’s a lot of great (some not so great) form builders out there, which proved to be a valuable resource when determining our MVP. Some direct and indirect competitors I looked at were Hubspot, PandaDocs, Docusign, and Woofoo.
Impact Effort Matrix
I led a workshop with all members in the office to define the MVP (and partly as a way to give others an idea of what it is I actually do) This also allowed me to take advantage of different perspectives and uncover some unique insights!
Card Sorting
Used an open card sorting method to help understand mental models and define the IA.
Test & Iterate
Iterations of low, mid, and high fidelity prototyping with usability testing.
The Workshop
I led a UX Workshop with all members in the LA office to find alignment on vision, intended outcomes and ideate on requirements for the MVP (and as a way to give others an idea of what it is I actually do) This also allowed me to leverage different perspectives and uncover unique insights and areas of opportunity.
